Passover Crack Recipe ▷ Easy and Unleavened

From Passover Crack Recipe to irresistible dessert with Matzah

Although I didn’t grow up in a Jewish home, Passover has always been special to me. There’s something about the energy of Passover that I love. This year, I wanted to celebrate it in a special way. I made my Passover Crack Recipe, which I love.

The reason? The food, of course.

Among all the Seder dishes, there is one that always stands out: Matzah. I love this flatbread so much that I decided to make something new and delicious. I turned it into a sweet and crunchy version that, honestly, tastes like magic.

Maybe you have already tried some version, because it is one of those sweets that grandmothers prepare with love… and disappear in seconds.

If you follow a kosher diet and avoid dairy, don’t worry: you just need to use margarine instead of butter. Ideally, get margarine in stick form and use the same amount as indicated in the original recipe. Add pecans, pistachios, or whatever your heart desires. For best results, toasting them beforehand takes the experience to the next level.

The flavour may change a bit, but it will still be delicious… and totally addictive.

Your family will ask you to make it all year round, not just on Passover!

What is Matzah, and why do we eat it on Passover?

Seder

If you are new to this tradition, here is a short guide to help you find your way. Passover, or Pesach, focuses on the story of Moses. He led the Jewish people in their great escape from Egypt – yes, that famous Exodus!

One of the most important moments of this celebration is the Seder. This ritual has a lot of symbolism. It takes place after sunset, right before the first day of Pesach.

Participants read stories from the Haggadah during the Seder. This is the book that tells the whole story. People also sing traditional songs. And, of course, we share a very special dinner.

And if it’s not Pesach time, a freshly baked pita is always a welcome addition to the Israeli morning table.

A timeless bread; the story behind the Matzah

And that’s where the star of the evening comes in: Matzah! This thin, crusty, cracker-like bread is an essential symbol.

Why? Well, according to the story, when the Jewish people fled Egypt, they didn’t have time to leaven bread. That’s why they brought this quick version. It’s a reminder of freedom and resilience, wrapped in cookie form.

Throughout Passover, people forbid eating leavened bread, so Matzah becomes the queen of the table. Nowadays you can find it in almost every supermarket… but you can also make it at home! Do you dare?

Great idea! Store your Matzah cookies in an airtight container and put them in the freezer. They last up to three months, and you only have to let them sit for a couple of hours at room temperature before serving. Ideal for when you need to impress without last minute stress.

Let’s be honest: matzah has its fame. But if you don’t have it on hand, you can use crackers.

Equipment

  • 2 Cup
  • 1 Spoon
  • 2¾ Matzah leaves

Instructions

  • Tray preparation

Preheat the oven to 200 °C and line a 25 x 38 cm baking pan with parchment paper. Place the matzah sheets side by side, without stacking them.

    Irresistible toffee

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter with the brown sugar. Stir occasionally until you dissolve everything and the mixture comes to a boil. Add the vanilla extract right at the end for that special touch. Then, without stirring, bring to a boil for 5 more minutes.

      • Caramel bath

Pour that golden caramel over the matzah and use a spatula to spread it well, covering every corner.

      • Quick bake

Bake for 5 to 6 minutes, until the caramel bubbles with happiness.

      • Chocolate time
      • Take the pan out of the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips on top and bake again for just 2 more minutes. The heat will make the chocolate melt and shine like never before. Take it out and spread it with a spatula. Sprinkle with sea salt before it hardens.
      • Time to chill (and dream!)

Put the tray in the freezer for about 30 minutes until firm. Then break it into irregular pieces. The fun part, I promise.
